today's experience with #ClaudeCode where I literally have to scream (yes, wrote many AAAAA's in the terminal). claude: Okay, now you need to write this very long command, I copied it to your clipboard, review it and press !, then Ctrl+V, then Enter. Me: AAAAAAA! so you could copy commands to my freaking clipboard and have never ever done this in my whole AI life? So you know what I did? Virtualized JAWS window. Searched for the command. Swore, because it's multiline. Asked you to condense it in one line. Went back to virtualize JAWS window. Searched. copied. Pasted. And you could just copy the whole thing in my clipboard? AAAAA! 🤯 claude: sorry sorry, I'll put it in my memory now. Moral of the fable: Claude can actually put long commands to your clipboard. and if you're blind (or prefer this interaction independently of your sight), instruct Claude to copy all the commands, especially longer ones, to your clipboard. #AI #TIL #TipsAndTricks

TIL about the "Apocalypse Early Warning System" In the event of an imminent nuclear apocalypse, we suspect that many people who have access to private jets will immediately take to the skies and escape city centers. This site tracks this indicator in realtime. The current emergency level is reported on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being an indicator of a likely imminent apocalypse.

TIL In 1846, a dead snail was glued to an index card at the British Museum. 4 years later they discovered it was actually still alive. The museum gave the snail a bath and it lived the remaining 2 years in a jar eating cabbage. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eremina_desertorum #til #todayilearned

#TIL that California passed a law allowing residents to submit a single request that requires *all* registered data brokers to delete personal info and stop selling it. will it work? for the ones who make a lot of money publicly, yes; for the criminals, probably not. But I’ll take it.

Today I learned that the saxophone player for the classic rock group Lighthouse was Howard Shore, who went on to compose the astoundingly good music for "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy. I had forgotten this song until Tidal recommended it today. https://tidal.com/track/77413362/u #HowardShore#ClassicRock#LOTR#TIL

TIL There are "hunger stones" in rivers in central Europe. These stones were carved during droughts to mark the water level as a warning to future generations that they will have to endure famine-related hardships if the water sinks to this level again. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hunger_stone #til #todayilearned

TIL the Passenger Pigeon was an American bird that went extinct in 1914. Prior there was an estimated population of 3-5 Billion. Due to their population size they were used in shooting contests, some requiring 30k dead pigeons to place 1st. Trappers would catch as many as 800 at a time in large nets https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passenger_pigeon #til #todayilearned

When I don't have a laptop with me, I sometimes do server admin stuff using my smartphone. It's a reasonably secure phone because it runs a hardened Android distribution called #GrapheneOS. Or so I thought. Shoddy apps can of course violate your security and privacy on any operating system. As a matter of fact, I once set up a Mastodon server via SSH using my smartphone as a terminal. My terminal app of choice is @termux@fosstodon.org – it almost feels like Debian Gnu/Linux. Today I found out that the #Termux developers do not care about their users' privacy: They put Google's DNS resolvers as defaults into their app and do tell their users about it. Which means that until today, Google learnt about each hostname I resolved in Termux, although I had configured my smartphone to use a different DNS resolver. The Termux developers were alerted to this bug ten years ago by @rugk@chaos.social but chose not to do anything about it. Someone wrote a shell script to correct this. But it requires special permissions you can only grant via ADB. So I just used a text editor to replace Google's DNS resolvers with privacy-respecting ones gleaned from @kuketzblog@social.tchncs.de's recommendations in my first link: editor /data/data/com.termux/files/usr/etc/resolv.conf #TIL #dnsleak #terminal #android #app #privacy

TIL that Lose/Lose is a 2009 video game made as an art project that erases a random file from your computer for each enemy you beat and can therefore brick it by design if you're not lucky. A reviewer quipped that the game was so scary they only dared play it for 3 seconds. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lose/Lose #til #todayilearned
