I added Reddit to my age verification bypass extension! Age verification is everywhete, so I'm making an add-on for #firefox to bypass age verification on many platforms! https://addons.mozilla.org/addon/age-verification-bypass/ , source code at https://github.com/helloyanis/age-verification-bypass I just added Reddit to the list of supported sites! It can now automatically remove the NSFW log-in popup when viewing NSFW subreddits. (Yes I know we have Lemmy on the fediverse, but I think it can still be useful!) If you don't have Firefox, or want a more private experience, you can also use a front-end like redlib at https://redlib.catsarch.com to avoid communicating with Reddit entirely, and you don't even need my extension on that one! (Video shows off the concept but doesn't show any actual nsfw contents) @privacy@lemmy.ml @privacy@lemmy.world @privacy@programming.dev #ageverification #web #privacy #reddit

Proton’s CEO Cancels AI ‘Re-Interviews’ Yen also mentioned “org changes,” and said that part of this is “redistributing talent across teams.” He said that the reorganization will happen next month, “but there will be no loss of jobs from AI.” TL; DR Nothing has really changed, we’re just going to be more discreet to avoid further backlash, also layoffs are coming, don’t worry, we won’t say it’s because of AI. This is why you don’t bargain with terrorist tech bros. Andy and his cronies need to go.

EU plans to let Frontex monitor social media and flag posts for removal The European Commission wants Frontex, the EU’s border agency, to monitor public social media posts about migration. It would also flag illegal content to platforms. MEPs and digital rights groups say the plan puts online speech under a border agency’s watch. The Commission proposed the change on Tuesday as part of a wider overhaul of […] This story continues at The Next Web

If you're able, cancel your sub to Proton, cite Andy as the reason Andy Yen’s values are incompatible with Proton’s mission. He advocates for poor security practices, supports fascists, and he verbally abuses his subordinates. As such, I can no longer in good conscience continue to financially support a company with such terrible leadership. Unfortunately for me, my subscription just renewed last month on a multi year plan, but it does give me time to browse for and experiment with alternatives. If you’re able, I encourage you to do the same and cite Andy Yen as the driving factor for your decision. We can’t let these tech bro fascists destroy what little semblance of privacy we have left.

Your private profile in reddit may show up on google Well, a random creep messaged me on reddit, after a few messages exchanged he said he looked up my private profile on google and read through my posts. Outside of how angry I was at him for doing that, it surprised me that google does this, It even gave an AI OVERVIEW of who I am on reddit, (I have posted my age and country on reddit, and a few other things ofc, but the others describe what im into and what I do on reddit, not tied to any personal info, so its just my age and country really) But what the fuck google? I know you can look up people in places like ghostddit, so I wasn’t expecting my profile to be 100% private either, but it’s crazy you can find it straight on google. I guess its slowly coming to a point than ANYTHING you do online is gonna visible for EVERYONE. Yes we were already being surveilled, but this and then the discord thing with messages from servers showing up on google too? I’m pissed off man. (I know lemmy is not private either, but I don’t have a google account tied to here, the one email I used to register didn’t ask me for phone verification so its not as bad to hang out here, might look into matrix later)

#introduction Hello Mastodon! I’m Carlos, an independent developer in the EU, and this is the account of Caviar, a Mac app that redacts documents and screenshots for good: every page re-rendered as an image, every black area verified pixel by pixel before export, hidden data removed, and no network connection at all. Coming soon to the Mac App Store, free during launch. Until then: https://caviar-app.com/en #macOS #indiedev #privacy

Governments are hacking people with ‘zero-click’ spyware by showing them online ads Zack Whittaker reports: Security researchers at digital rights unit The Citizen Lab say government spyware makers are abusing global advertising networks to target and hack devices by serving malicious online adverts. A new report published Thursday by the University of Toronto lab, which investigates surveillance and digital rights abuses, said an Israeli company called Discover-Tech…

How do you guys harden your systems or make them more privacy oriented? cross-posted from: lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/77983327 The responses don’t have to be strictly NixOS or Linux specific as I expect the general process to be very similar. I never hardened a system before so I’m not sure what things I should be focusing on and what solutions are out there. I’m hearing a lot good on SELinux and apparmour but but those sadly aren’t supported on NixOS. Recently I set up adguard home with somewhat strict blocklists and SearxNG to take control over my web searches. In the coming days I intend to set up wireguard and a VPN in my config and I also have some firefox extensions for blocking ads, trackers, JS, port scanning, etc. but it all feels surface level and I don’t know where to take things from there. What are you guys doing with your setups? Usually I prefer to never ask questions and look things up myself but reddit will soon block everything with a login wall and that’s where I get most info from so I’m finally giving it a shot. :p

Has anybody here solved the following conundrum?

  • wanting a bluetooth/gps tracker to be able to recover a stolen bicycle (or other use case)
  • not trusting Google, Apple and other companies to not use/sell/lose data
  • using a deGoogled phone and Linux computer (in my case, LineageOS and Fedora)

That is, I would want to be able to recover my bicycle if stolen, while keeping my daily movements as private as possible. Enshittified web search has not helped much..

@Tutanota@mastodon.social My personal picks: LibreWolf for hardening out of the box, and Firefox with arkenfox if you want full control over every setting. Both are open source, independent from Google, and uBlock Origin works perfectly on them. #Privacy #LibreWolf #Firefox #arkenfox #FOSS
