Hi, Mastodon. This is Dancing Wolf Software, a small independent software studio in Arizona. We make practical apps and puzzle games, and we try to keep them small, clear and built with care. No accounts or tracking just because everyone else added them. Our first release is WolfMark Reader, a native Markdown reader and editor for the Mac. https://dancingwolfsoftware.com #Introduction #IndieDev #macOS #Markdown

nicoleslittlebrother is an independent software studio. It makes Showreel Studio, product films that keep up with your software, and careful utilities for the Mac: Cachet, Procession and Porchlight. Each one explains itself. Here: new releases, and plain answers about what’s on your Mac and the services your apps depend on. https://nicoleslittlebrother.tech/ #introduction #macOS #MacApps #IndieDev

Hi, I’m Rick. I built Cadre Contacts because I couldn’t find a contacts cleanup app I trusted. It finds duplicates and messy details on your device, and nothing changes until you approve it. Free on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. https://hicadre.com #Introduction #iOS #macOS #IndieDev

Hi Mastodon! 👋 I'm Neon Rost, and I build small, free, open-source Mac apps in Swift: ☕ TOM keeps your Mac awake and can press keys, move the mouse or click for you, on a timer if you like 🧰 MIKE bundles 20 tools for everyday media chores: video, images, text, audio, files 💿 Sleeve tags your music and also rips, burns and copies CDs No accounts, no tracking, GPLv3. 🔗 https://github.com/NeonRost #introduction #macOS #Swift #SwiftUI #OpenSource #indiedev

Hi Mastodon 👋 I'm Siphesihle, a solo developer in South Africa. I make Aurio, a Mac app that removes background noise from your microphone: fans, typing, traffic, the dog. It runs on your Mac, and any app that lets you pick a mic gets the clean sound (Zoom, Meet, Teams, OBS…). No account. 14 days free, then $40 and the app is yours to keep. https://aurio.dev #introduction #macOS #MacApps #IndieDev

For a long time we have made our selves gradually more and more dependent on Big Tech. This applies when it comes to operating system, to browsers, to various services, to storage and now when it comes to AI.

More and more are realizing this was and is wrong.

You can take the first steps to be independent as a person or company. Obviously, given that you are here, you have already taken some steps. Here are some suggestions:

  1. Switch browser... to Vivaldi. :)
  2. Switch desktop OS. Personally I have switched to Linux. Currently running Kubuntu, Ubuntu and Zorin on different computers.
  3. Switch mail service. Proton and Fastmail are good services, but there are others. Choose one that allows use of a mail client.
  4. Switch calendar service. Most mail services also offer a calendar service.
  5. Switch office package. Personally I use LibreOffice.
  6. Switch Web conferencing software. Personally I use Whereby.
  7. Switch search. Startpage, Ecosia, Qwant and DDG are great alternatives.

There are a lot of other great choices. The point is to start taking those steps away from Big Tech and Silicon Valley.

🚨 We're disclosing a macOS security bug that Apple says is not an issue. Using a simple archive-and-restore trick, an attacker can silently replace the main executable of virtually any application downloaded from the web—no password or warning is required. Here's a demo using Signal to steal its encryption key. 📝 Blog with technical details: link in the replies. Do you think this should be considered a security bug? 🎬👇 #Apple #privacy #infosec #security #macOS

I submitted a Pull Request to update MacPorts' OpenSSH to 10.6p1 here: https://github.com/macports/macports-ports/pull/35346 GitHub Continuous Integration checks passed OK. It's up to someone else with commit access to merge it. (I am less certain what to do about the sandboxing support removal mentioned by @brynet@bsd.network believe it or not, I kinda despise Apple and macOS; yet I figure down streaming things for others since I am doing it myself is hopefully beneficial? If I am going to have to get more into the internals of a proprietary for-profit OS from a company that has trillions [plural] in its market cap? I kinda feel as if they may actually be able to afford to employ folks to do this stuff and I am less certain I want to be among them? Particularly given that supposedly in recent years, Apple has become subsumed to some degree by Unit 8200 [e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vc-iH5GEPJ8&t=480s] like the politics and optics of all that are, awful [Unit 8200 are Israeli spies, essentially]; and probably also a big part of why the new Apple Watch is Big Brother "always listening" as just one example of how the company professing to be privacy focused, in practice: is more like 1984's double-speak in 2026. If you can, I would sincerely encourage you to use OpenSSH on OpenBSD!) #OpenSSH #MacPorts #SecureShell #macOS #Encryption #OpenSource

Hello everyone! I recently did a soft-launch of my macOS app called ImageFlow. ImageFlow is a node-based image editor build for non-linear and nondestructive workflows. I have been working on this non-stop for the past two years and poured my soul on this. I'm currently looking for feedback so I can decide the next steps on the app's development. Get in touch with me if you want a promo-code to test the app. Thanks and have a great day! #Indiedev #macos #macapp #swift #apple
