Please tell me requestSceneSessionDestruction: returning a "This functionality is not supported for this device idiom." error on the iPhone Duo is a bug.. My app supports opening additional windows on Mac (viewers), but not on any other device. On iOS/iPadOS I just request a destruction of the new window if the user tries. Anyone got any ideas? #iOSDev #iPhoneDuo #UIKit #Xcode

Apple's help books are barely documented, so I wrote up how I build one out of the same Markdown that feeds my docs site. The trap that cost me an evening: hiutil's CoreSpotlight index only works once Spotlight has imported your help bundle, and that never happens for a debug build out of DerivedData. Use the legacy LSM format instead. pandoc and a ten-line Lua filter do the rest. https://www.lilback.com/mac-help-book-from-markdown/ #macOS #MacDev #Swift #Xcode #iOSDev

I finally updated my main laptop to macOS 26. I was hoping to just wait for 27, but, unfortunately work needs to be done. (Apple will only accept apps built with Xcode 26 now, and UIDesignRequiresCompatibility has *unique bugs* so it's time to support liquid glass.) Anyway here's Xcode 26.6 on macOS 26.5.2—the current release version of each. It's borderline unusable; I need to keep the inspector closed now unless I'm actively using it. #MacDev #iOSDev #Xcode

As a certified dark mode hater I have been able to get away with having Xcode in light mode but the code window in a dark theme (which I strangely like). I can import the theme with Xcode 27 but it makes the WHOLE interface dark even though the configuration window correctly uses the selected light mode. FB23456652 #Xcode

My god the predictive code completion model in #Xcode is bad. It hallucinated a parameter to a parameterless function I just wrote.

On a class called Config I have

func transitions() -> [Transition] {
…

Then in another class I wrote:

let transitions =

And it autocompleted to

let transitions = config.transitions(for: config.countdown)

WTF Xcode. At least countdown is an actual property on Config, but WTF.

God dammit #Xcode.

I have struct TimerState and therefore have struct TimerStateTests. When I'm writing a test and have typed out let ts = TimerState DO NOT AUTOCOMPLETE TO TimerStateTests() WHEN I TYPE (

I really wish there was a way to preview notifications during iOS app development without actually running the app and triggering a notification event. Like some Preview macro or debug framework that you can throw notification info to just to get a rendering of what it will look like. I really don't want to hide a button that actually creates a notification behind #IF DEBUG but it looks like that's what I'll have to do. #Swift #SwiftUI #iOS #Xcode

The #1 question my #SwiftUI students ask my TAs (and me) is how to fix "The Local Repository is Out of Date" error when trying to push from #Xcode to GitHub. I've created this YouTube video illustrating a fix. I hope it helps others.
