The Civil Rights Act of 1965 helped pave the way for Black voters, the beginning of dismantling Jim Crow. But, it took a long time. It wasn't a magic law, just like Brown vs. The Board of Education didn't automatically desegregate the schools. But, 1965. Think about how long ago that was, not too long after I was born. I came along just a few days after the famous "I Have a Dream" speech during the historic March on Washington. Fast forward to now, where voter suppression in Georgia is still a thing, and Stacey Abrams has fought like hell to defeat most of it. And yet. And yet. We now have a Black woman as our Governor! That's earth-shattering change that only took almost my entire life to happen. Keisha Lance-Bottoms busted right through that glass ceiling, showering us with tiny sparkling grains, shining like diamonds in the bright new day. The future begins now. #USPol #US #Politics #Election #USElection
