Cratering #oil use in #China shows the death spiral that could end oil New numbers released by the National Bureau of Statistics of China tell the tale: in Q2, oil use dropped by a whopping 9%, and an even more incredible 16% for transportation. Combined, drop in oil use was enough to pull Chinese #CO2 #emissions down by 1%. A large portion is due to boom in #electricvehicles and collapse in ICE vehicle sales, meaning transportation is simply getting more efficient.

Zudem verursacht der #Bau enorme #CO2-Emissionen. Diese sind in Anbetracht der an anderer Stelle vorhandenen Leerstände kaum zu rechtfertigen. Es erschiene uns z.B. ratsamer den ländlichen Raum durch guten #ÖPNV und flächendeckende #Glasfaser|infrastruktur besser anzubinden oder kleinere Städte strukturell zu stärken.

1. Die Oligopole der betroffenen Unternehmen. Diese haben inzwischen solche Dimensionen angenommen, dass sie alleine, jedenfalls aber gemeinsam vielen Ortes den Mietmarkt bestimmen können. Eine solche Akkumulation von #Kapital und #Macht trägt dazu bei, dass die Mieten auch ohne dies begründende Standard- oder Kostensteigerungen immer höher werden. Diese Entwicklung läuft den Interessen der Gemeinschaft zu wider.

Dies führt uns zu den volkswirtschaftlichen Überlegungen:

Kleinere und anders strukturierte Player, wie z.B. Genossenschaften, verfolgen andere Zwecke, die in der Regel zu besserem Wohnstandard bei niedrigeren Mieten führen dürften.

Between #fosdem and #eventinfra we are close to spending 10k€ on #airgradient because they do most things right, and we were not able to get our own hardware spun up. Intention is for everything to go into the eventinfra loan pool so ALL the conferences can monitor their environments. Before we make that step, we wanted to check if it makes sense to collaborate on fully open hardware, firmware, and software stack instead.
