Wind Turbines Provide Half of Rancher’s Income Since He Decided to Invite Them on His Land In 2006, the largest wind power project in Kansas was turned on among the Flint Hills. Today, the royalties it has generated for rancher Peter Ferrell are allowing him to pass the farm down to his children. The 50 turbines—which Ferrell barely notices these days—have provided half of his income since then, insulating him and […] The post Wind Turbines Provide Half of Rancher’s Income Since He Decided to Invite Them on His Land appeared first on Good News Network.

Europe's nuclear power is increasingly failing amid rising heat and droughts. France’s nuclear fleet has already seen a record number of heat-related outages this summer. Low river Danube waters forced Romania to shut both its nuclear reactors. Hungary is next. Isn’t it time they switch to wind and solar already? https://news.sky.com/story/hungary-to-shut-down-sole-nuclear-power-plant-as-danube-falls-to-record-low-13569304 #wind #solar #renewables #extremeweather #climate #heatwave #drought

RE: https://mastodon.social/@MAKS23/117033665964285877 more water shortages at nuclear plants. Until they use little to no fresh water for cooling, current plants are not a realistic solution to the fossil fuel transition and building new is ludicrous when renewables, even with battery systems, are orders of magnitude cheaper and less environmentally needy. #endfossilfuels #nuclear #solar #wind #heat #climateChange

🌊 Record heat has shallowed Europe’s rivers, exposing mammoth bones, sunken ships and costing the economy hundreds of millions of euros. In Bulgaria, a mammoth jawbone and tusks have been found on the bare bottom of the Danube, in Croatia, the cargo ship Fulton, which sank in 1937, and in Serbia, a German warship from World War II. The Danube in Budapest has fallen to a record 23 cm, Rhine traffic has fallen by 10%, and Hungary’s Paks nuclear power plant is shutting down due to water shortages

You know what doesn’t get shut down when heatwaves and droughts dry up the rivers? Wind and solar. Climate change is exposing a weakness in nuclear power. Lack of water in the Danube has closed two reactors in Romania and one in Hungary. Similar problems have shut three in France. At least eight others in Europe are having to operate on reduced power. https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/low-danube-river-levels-force-romania-shut-down-both-its-nuclear-power-reactors-2026-07-29/ #nuclear #solar #wind #energy
