Today I received a #scam mail that said it was from #Hetzner. It was quite good crafted, almost fell for it. It had correct domain and email info, the attached statement was sound. Thanks at @hetzner@mastodon.hetzner.social support to verify with me, that it actually was not a mail from them. Keep your eyes open!

Handy klingelt. Nummer meiner Bank. Hm. Ich gehe dran und melde mich. Antwort: "Schönen Guten Tag Herr U. Ich rufe an wegen einer Sicherheitslücke und brauche ihre Mithilfe." Ich: "Schönen Guten Tag, ist das Wetter bei Ihnen auch stürmisch?" "Als eine KI habe ich keinen realen Aufenthaltsort und kann Ihnen daher keine Auskunft geben." "Doch, das war genau die richtige Auskunft. Auf Wiedersehen." 🤣 Funfact. Bis zu dieser Antwort war ich sogar einigermaßen sicher, einen Menschen am anderen Ende zu haben. Akustisch wird es schwieriger, KI zu erkennen. Aber es bleiben Maschinen. Direkt meine Bank informiert. Bei überraschenden Anrufen frage ich immer nebenbei nach Wetter oder anderen obskuren Dingen. Meist um die Leute zu verwirren. #scam

Ich krieg in letzter Zeit an alle möglichen Mailadressen diese obskuren Mails ich sei mit meiner Webcam beim Sex gefilmt worden und solle jetzt größere Summen¹ zahlen. Ich halte das für ein äußerst schlechtes Angebot. Soweit ich weiß, bekommen Menschen auf diversen spezialisierten Plattformen Geld dafür, daß sie per Webcam beim Sex gefilmt werden. I fell for the Booking.com WhatsApp scam today. There has apparently been a #databreach at #bookingcom, which provides a little bit of truth to this "please verify your credit card now" scam. They knew my name, my phone number, the hotel I was staying at and the exact dates. That, a little bit of time pressure and a potential quick solution got me. I managed to complete the flow once, which according to them would only reserve the money. Something failed and I tried again. This time they were asking me to confirm the balance of my account for verification, and that finally triggered the alert for me. I'm retrospect, the originating WhatsApp number was located in Brazil (which was not where I was going). The name didn't match the name of the Hotel representative in the message, and the website's title was Booking.com, which didn't match the actual host name in the URL. I didn't notice. Approach shit like this calmly and don't let people push you to rash decisions. #Phishing #scam

I am not a fan of gambling. Never have been. Personally I think most all gambling should be banned. Maybe with some limited exceptions. What I am more than disgusted by is the so called prediction markets. That looks like the worst kind of gambling and marketed as just stats. TV channels, such as CNN, include gambling results from these companies as something equal to polling. Hidden marketing is a more accurate term. There is also a lot of examples of people gambling on things they know the outcome of. Maybe not a big surprise with something like this. Where are the regulators? I was just tagged in a post from something calling itself MSTDNSecure, saying there has been "irregular activity" on my account and with a link to fix it. I'm assuming this is some sort of new scam and will block and report. Am I right to do so? #Scam #MSTDNSecure #Today
