Kevin McCloud: "Why I’ll never buy another electric car" https://flip.it/EX2GPw I think Kevin is absolutely spot on about EVs here, tbh. Very clickbaity headline as he isn't saying he won't buy an electric car full stop- but rather a new one. In a nutshell: Large EVs have sketchy environmental credentials when people don't actually need/use such a large vehicle (i.e., they would have been fine with a smaller car as they just do local trips only...)Buying brand new isn't necessary and is just wastefulEVs have stopped becoming green focused (recycled interior materials, etc) and more about luxury which is negating their green credentials. I have to say, my biggest bug bear is the obsession with buying brand new. People complain so much about the depreciation of EVs like it's a terrible thing but it means they essentially become massively more affordable on the second hand market. You can get much more, for much less. Battery health anxiety is overhyped because research is currently showing that the batteries in EVs are actually outlasting the chassis that they sit upon- simply because battery management tech in EVs is so advanced for keeping batteries at optimal health. EDIT: Updated to clarify what the headline actually meant. #Cars #EV #Transport #ClimateChange

Good news. Volkswagen is getting it right. "Volkswagen’s new EVs are so popular that the company is now cutting ICE shifts" Cutting staff building gas cars, and VW is increasing staff building EVs, because EV Volkswagens are outselling gas. Finally. https://electrek.co/2026/09/22/volkswagens-new-evs-so-popular-cutting-ice-shifts/ #ev #vw #climate

There is always a solution! This is our #ev charging at Springs Junction in Aotearoa /New Zealand. This is a tiny community in the foothills of the Southern Alps. The electricity grid here can’t support a fast charger. Those big blue boxes are the solution. They are battery packs made up of #repurposed Nissan Leaf batteries that are no longer fit for use in EVs. The battery packs are recharged overnight, using what electricity the grid can sustain. #reuse #recycle #sustainability

A bit concerning if you’re thinking about buying a BYD. Four Corners got a cybersecurity expert to hack a BYD Shark 6. He was able to remotely control the lights, wipers, locks and audio, track the vehicle and activate its microphone. The really worrying part? The expert says the access didn’t even require a password. And Australia apparently has stronger cybersecurity requirements for connected washing machines and vacuum cleaners than it does for cars. Maybe the rush to put computers on wheels has got a little ahead of the security. #byd #ev #cybersecurity #privacy #cars #australia

greetings mastodon EV experts. #ev - what should I know about selecting the home charger? I have solar panels and single phase. Not looking to go 3 phase. I’m home almost all the time so charging schedules unimportant? (thanks for help so far, there is a wealth of knowledge here)!

97% !! of German #EV drivers are (highly) satisfied with their electric car. That is a full 9 percentage points higher than the level of dissatisfaction with the Bundeskanzler, which already seemed to be a historically high poll figure.

Range Rover Electric review: massive performance, huge range and serious off-road EV skills — at a serious price https://www.wired.com/story/the-range-rover-electric-has-finally-arrived/ After long delays, JLR’s biggest gamble with its Range Rover brand is here with huge performance, range, and off-road EV skills. It’s mighty pricey, but the US gets a cheaper model. #mix #ev #cars
