THE ROLLING STONES Let It Bleed 1969 Canada pressing [early red labels] With certain bands, I’m more than ok with never hearing them in my life ever again. I have been clobbered over the head with bands like The Stones, Beatles, The Who, and Led Zeppelin over and over again, and I just don’t care to hear those band’s records any more. There are a few exceptions to this sentiment, and Let It Bleed is certainly one of them. It is hands down my favorite Stones record, and I will ALWAYS be down to listen to it. It is the only record of theirs that I just never got burnt out on, and I will continue to listen to it until I’m dead. One of the greatest album openers of all time, and you can say the same about the CLOSING track as well. Combined with “You Got The Silver” (maybe my favorite Stones song ever) and “Midnight Rambler”, it’s my forever Stones album. #vinyl #vinylrecords #vinylcommunity #records #vintage #retro #physicalmedia #analog #vinylcollection #art #music #1960s #60s

PINK FLOYD Relics 1981 Canada reissue Having a lovely Saturday afternoon with The Floyd. This is probably the Pink Floyd recording that I’ve listened to the most in my life, and by that measurement, I guess you could call it my favorite Floyd record period, which I’d be ok with. Meant to whet people’s appetites between Atom Heart Mother and Meddle, it’s got all the killer early singles on it, b-sides, soundtrack recordings from More, and the previously unreleased ‘69 track “Biding My Time”. It’s the most satisfying front-to-back Floyd record there is, and as much as I love from DSOTM on, there’s nothing that holds a candle to the earlier stuff. Lastly, I’m not a huge fan of “alternate covers” of things, but in THIS particular case, this has always been my favorite of this album’s numerous variants. #vinyl #vinylrecords #vinylcommunity #records #vintage #retro #physicalmedia #analog #vinylcollection #art #music #pinkfloyd #psychedelic #relics #1960s #60smusic #60s #artrock

ED O’BRIEN Blue Morpho 2026 Europe pressing Without a doubt one of my favorite records of 2026. This is ASTONISHINGLY good. To be honest, I was not impressed with Ed’s EARTH album. It just sounded like him trying to figure out what he could do outside of the cozy confines of Radiohead, away from Thom and Jonny. It was a little too conventional & clumsy sounding for me. With Blue Morpho, it seems that he discovered that he didn’t have to put his broken self back together in exactly the same shape. THIS record embraces atmosphere and nature. It’s breezy, psychedelic and ambient sounding, with cool electronic and Kraut rock flourishes. It’s a BEAUTIFUL record, and something I wasn’t expecting at all. Ed is on record talking about how hard things were for him since Covid. Through this great record, it sounds like depression has turned into graciousness and gratitude. #vinyl #vinylrecords #vinylcommunity #records #vintage #retro #physicalmedia #analog #vinylcollection #art #music

THE SHARP PINS Radio DDR 2025 U.S. pressing More perfect #lofi #janglepop from Sharp Pins! I posted the equally excellent Turtle Rock last week, and I’ve been giving repeated listens to this one as well. I guess this was originally released as a home tape in April of ‘24, and this vinyl version is expanded to 14 songs, straddling that awesome line of do-it-yourself Guided By Voices, Big Star, some Beatles, as well as some of the clsssic sounding British Invasion bands, too. I’ve taken quite a shine to Kai Slater’s songwriting, and I love these records. #vinyl #vinylrecords #vinylcommunity #records #vintage #retro #physicalmedia #analog #vinylcollection #art #music #indie #alternative #artrock #Chicago #sharppins

THE ID The Inner Sounds Of The Id 2023 U.S. 2xLP MONO reissue Blue And Purple Vinyl Last spin of the night goes to one of the most satisfying reissues of all time for me. Such a killer (and criminally underrated) #psychedelic rock record, & Sundazed really outdid themselves here. An EXCELLENT sounding mono reissue from the original analog master by Kevin Gray, but where this separates itself is the bonus record. A completely different version of the album was found when they rediscovered the tapes. THOSE are alternate instrumental versions of the record (which are mixed in stereo here), and they really show how these great tunes were constructed. Bass player Glenn Cass’s playing is much more up front on the instrumentals, and he only heard them for the first time during the reissue’s prep. This is just a killer record, & maybe it’s definitive version. #vinyl #vinylrecords #vinylcommunity #records #vintage #retro #physicalmedia #analog #vinylcollection #art #music #1960s #60s

PROTOMARTYR Hotel Usona 2026 Europe Ltd. Edition pressing Gold vinyl Just picked this up today, and I’m about to throw it on. I’m super excited for this. I’ve been all-in on Protomartyr since their first record Under Color Of Official Right, and each time out, they have offered something a little different than before, always engaging, always interesting. They’re a band I’ve always appreciated, and will always support when they put out something new. They are fully themselves, and just do what they do. Just a great band. Nice packaging here, too. A very cool double-sided poster, their customary “Your Lucky Numbers” zine that comes with every new album, and a rad bumper sticker. Stay tuned… #vinyl #vinylrecords #vinylcommunity #records #vintage #retro #physicalmedia #analog #vinylcollection #art #music #indie #alternative #punk #postpunk #protomartyr #artrock

NEIL YOUNG Le Noise 2010 U.S. pressing Have been thinking about listening to this all day while out and about town taking care of some things. Hands down, one of my three favorite Neil Young albums. There’s a magic about Le Noise. Daniel Lanois’ production approach to this is nothing short of remarkable. This is nothing but Neil singing and playing electric guitar, and by using distortion, echo, delays, feedback and other processing, Lanois transforms the performances into something otherworldly. Neil’s guitar sounds so massive, and with all the sonics going on around it, it makes for a wonderfully noisy (and riffy) album indeed. For me, it’s essential listening in Neil’s catalog, regardless of era. When I took this out to play it, I forgot about the DVD inside that came with it. These are going for stupid $ right now. #vinyl #vinylrecords #vinylcommunity #records #vintage #retro #physicalmedia #analog #vinylcollection #art #music #neilyoung #lenoise #daniellanois

THE BOO RADLEYS Everything's Alright Forever 2026 Europe reissue Today was the first day of fall, and I was beyond thrilled to see this downtown today. This album is synonymous with Autumn for me, and has been since the first time I heard it in the Fall of ‘92, when I dubbed it from my sister’s boyfriend’s tape collection. So it was kinda fate that I finally found it on vinyl today, to help usher in my favorite season. This was in my ears a lot at the beginning of each year of high school. I had detention A LOT, and had a very long walk home from school after time served. I will always have a clear picture of walking up Oak St., this blasting in my ears, while the autumn New England leaves flew around. Wonderful, dreamy, #shoegaze -y noise pop from a GREAT band. #vinyl #vinylrecords #vinylcommunity #records #vintage #retro #physicalmedia #analog #vinylcollection #art #music #dreampop #TheBooRadleys #indie #alternative #artrock

This is a design I did a few days ago for @fafo@social.fa-fo.de, an I/V curve tracer for semiconductor testing. The idea here is to create a voltage ramp/sine across a potential semiconductor and trace the current flowing, against the voltage. If there are non-linear characteristics, you will see it in the resulting curve, it becomes curved or kinked. The board is basically just a specialized AFE for #analog-toolkit, an analog IO dev-board of mine. It's already with the manufacturer, lets see how it will turn out #electronics #kicad

What are these ".raw" files the v4l2 saves streams to? I recently bought a PCIe expansion card for FireWire (1394a and 1394b) capture a PCIe expansion card for component video, composite video, VGA and DVI-I capture an nvidia GT 220 GPU to make room in my chassi for the other two cards, because my ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3080 OC Edition 12GB GDDR6X’s big butt was in the way. The goal is to help mom and dad to digitize old VHS, VHS-C, Mini DV and audio cassette tapes. The above expansion cards will arrive sometime next week and meanwhile, I have been doing some research on ffmpeg and v4l2-ctl. It’s absolutely amazing how much you can do - or could do - with ffmpeg if you had about two-three lifetimes to learn. 🤣 Anyway, using a cheap HDMI to USB video capture dongle, I have successfully captured some video with v4l2-ctl -d /dev/video0 --stream-mmap --stream-to=video.raw --stream-count=100 and then converted it using ffmpeg -i video.raw video.mkv. I am really interested in what this .raw file is, but all I could find was this, which seems to pertain to raw image files, rather than what v4l2-ctl outputs. I tried to do some Ctrl+f searches on Video for Linux API, but this was far beyond what I was able to comprehend. On the other hand, the manual is far too “shallow” and doesn’t explain much. Do you have any recommendations on what to read in order to understand a little bit more about the inner workings without having to take a PhD in how Linux does video? Why are these .raw files so big? What is the difference between them and and of the standard containers (.mkv, .mpeg, .avi etc.)? Also, a huge bonus if you can find the time and will to point out any rookie mistakes in the digitizing project itself.

THE EDSEL AUCTIONEER Voice Of The Harolds 1990 UK pressing Sweet-ass noisy Saturday jams. Kinda grunge-y, super loud indie rock from Leeds, and this is a mini-album that collects their first single, and E.P. material. Some Dino Jr., Husker Du, My Bloody Valentine and Pale Saints vibes, with great guitars. Super ragged and punchy sounding. John Peel heard their early demos and was so blown away by them that he brought them in Maida for a Peel session, which they recorded four songs for in 1988. I desperately need a copy of their 1992 album Simmer. So if anybody out there sees or comes across one… let’s make a deal. Yer friendly neighborhood Vinyl Ape will take care of you. But this is 100% worth checking out if you like any of the bands I compared them to, other genres where they sit. #vinyl #vinylrecords #vinylcommunity #records #vintage #retro #physicalmedia #analog #vinylcollection #art #music #1990s #90s #90smusic #indie #alternative #shoegaze
