Super-rich get ‘double dividend’ from causes and costs of climate crisis
"The world’s wealthiest people are not just profiting from the polluting causes of climate breakdown, they are also increasingly cashing in on the catastrophic consequences, according to a study by Oxfam.
The global equality organisation has found that the richest 0.1% of the world’s population are heavily invested in disaster preparedness, recovery and reconstruction – a market that is projected to grow from $70bn to $92bn a year by 2029.
This gives the planet’s wealthiest and most powerful people a “double dividend” from the climate crisis and, more alarmingly, an incentive to delay or disrupt action to solve the problem, the NGO says."

In allowing coal expansion in the Hunter, Chris Minns is pouring fuel on the climate fire. His decision will come back to hurt us all
"As someone who lost their home in the black summer bushfires, I was buoyed by the high court finding in favour of a small community group in the Hunter Valley earlier this month.
Led by two retired science teachers, Wendy Wales and Tony Lonergan, the Denman Aberdeen Muswellbrook Scone Healthy Environment Group took on a massive coal corporation and won. As a fellow schoolteacher, I felt a particular sense of pride seeing these ordinary Australians act on their care for their community and future generations.
In their four-year fight against MACH Energy’s Mount Pleasant coalmine in Muswellbrook, they argued it is no longer OK for big mining corporations to dig up coal and bank piles of cash while pretending the climate pollution from burning that coal is someone else’s problem.
The high court agreed that conditions aimed at reducing the climate pollution from burning Australian coal overseas had not been properly considered when the rosily named “Mount Pleasant Optimisation Project” received New South Wales approval.
Mining interests quickly responded to the high court’s decision, saying it was a threat to investment. Well, of course it is. But only to the wrong kind of investment – the kind that brings us all more frequent, worse and very costly climate-driven disasters.
Now, less than two weeks later, the NSW premier, Chris Minns, has announced plans to introduce special legislation that will allow the very same coal company to increase production at Mount Pleasant by nearly a third, bypassing the state’s usual planning approval process and scrutiny by the courts.
Minns says this is necessary to 'protect 400 jobs'. But the mine already has approval to operate until 2032. What message does it send when ordinary Australians fight for years to uphold the law, win in the highest court in the land and then watch our government step in to change the rules?"

Minns accused of bypassing high court ruling with laws to allow NSW mine to increase coal production by 32%
"The Minns government says it will introduce special legislation to allow a mine in the New South Wales Hunter Valley that was the subject of high court proceedings to increase its coal production by 32% per year.
The premier, Chris Minns, said the bill would authorise MACH Energy to increase the annual coal output at its Mount Pleasant coalmine by 4m tonnes to 16.5MT per year until 2032. He claimed it was necessary to save 400 jobs at the site before Christmas.
The move comes less than two weeks after the high court ruled that the approval of an expansion at the mine in Muswellbrook was invalid."

IPCC is under pressure to delay publication of key global climate report
"Scientists are coming under pressure from some petro-states and major developing countries to delay publication of a key global report on the climate, despite pleas from vulnerable countries worried that postponement could spell disaster for them.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the UN-convened body of the world’s leading climate scientists, is meeting this week in Addis Ababa to discuss its seventh assessment report, a comprehensive survey of all that is known about the climate crisis.
The report, known as AR7, was scheduled to appear in 2028 in time for deliberations at the UN climate summit, Cop33, late that year. Cop33 is scheduled to critique governments’ actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in line with the Paris agreement target of limiting temperatures to 1.5C above pre-industrial levels.
But a group of countries, led by Saudi Arabia and Russia and including India and China, is pressing for publication of the report to be pushed back to 2029."

Approval of biggest coal project in NSW planning commission’s history described as ‘infamous betrayal’
"The New South Wales independent planner has approved the biggest coalmine project to ever go before it, allowing mining to continue until 2045 at a Hunter Valley project described by climate groups as a “carbon bomb”.
On Wednesday, the commission said the greenhouse gas emissions from the mine, near Singleton, would “contribute to climate change impacts on the people, economy and environment of the Hunter region, NSW and globally”.
The Climate Council had described the project as a “climate bomb that would supercharge climate disasters”. One of its councillors – the former NSW Fire and Rescue commissioner Greg Mullins – on Wednesday raised concerns over overseas emissions from the coal.
“What NSW exports as coal, we import back as bushfires, floods, heatwaves and droughts,” Mullins said. “Climate harm does not stop at the border, and neither does the responsibility for it.”"
Once again the corrupt Labor party showing they couldn't give a sh!t about Australians, only Lobbyist Dollars, no matter the cost to environment, peoples health, or even the survival of the Human race.. Just short-term money money money!!

‘The toll is huge’: El Niño-driven wildfires overwhelm Indonesia’s orangutan population
"The mother’s hands were peeling from walking on the torched ground. Her eight-month-old baby, which clung to her side, was dehydrated and thin. The pair, named Mama Abu and Abu (“ash” in Indonesian), were found in an oil palm subsidiary estate, rescuers say.
The orangutan pair were saved last month from wildfires that are devouring Indonesia’s forests and peatland, unleashing thick smog, and destroying the habitat of some of the planet’s most vulnerable species."

‘Supersizing before our eyes’: UN warns of record El Niño approaching
"Event is likely to be largest in at least 1,000 years and will pile extra heat into a world already in a climate crisis"
"The El Niño is likely to be the largest in at least 1,000 years and will pile extra heat into an atmosphere where temperatures are already rising rapidly due to global heating. The combination means 2027 is set to “blow apart” the record and be the hottest year ever recorded."
But, fossil fuel execs don't care, the governments they bribe to look the other way don't care, only the people, the animals and the entire ecosystem of the planet suffers.. what could go wrong eh?.........
