Which BSD do you use ? I'm interested to see which BSD has the bigger user base on the fediverse and why you use it. Boosts are welcome. #OpenBSD #freebsd #OpenBSD #RUNBSD

The Ghidra reverse engineering tool/decompiler has returned to #OpenBSD ports! :flan_cheer: Thanks to Kurt Miller (kurt@), #Ghidra 12.0.2 is now in -current! :flan_hacker: https://marc.info/?l=openbsd-ports-cvs&m=177069535911042&w=2 Ghidra was originally ported to OpenBSD back in 2019, but due to major changes upstream, updates stagnated until 2023, when it was disabled to avoid shipping an outdated package.

#Ghidra has accepted #OpenBSD support upstream with the latest 12.2 release, now in -current ports thanks to Kurt Miller (kurt@)! :flan_hacker: https://marc.info/?l=openbsd-ports-cvs&m=179388758571544&w=2 https://github.com/NationalSecurityAgency/ghidra/blob/Ghidra_12.2_build/Ghidra/Configurations/Public_Release/src/global/docs/ChangeHistory.md

@MsDropbear42@infosec.space Maybe go ahead with #GhostBSD as the "gateway drug" :blobcatamused: into the BSD world. Then when you've "found your BSD feet" with it, hopefully easier to try plain #NetBSD or #OpenBSD. I think that's what I might do. I used friendly PC-BSD back in the 00s but no BSD experience since. (Switching not urgent yet as I'm on Linux Mint Xfce X11, based on a 2024 LTS release, so presumably much less likely to contain slop than a cutting edge release.) #FreeBSD #BSD #NoAI

Most of the highly-publicized security vulnerabilities in #Linux these days, including the recent kernel TCP RCE, are the result of races and/or memory corruption. If #BSD were to catch on, all those AI bug-finding bots would be turned on the BSDs…which are written in C. There's probably plenty of vulnerabilities there too. Perhaps fewer than Linux, since Linux is so jam-packed with enterprise features and weird optimizations, but still… 😬 Are #NetBSD and #OpenBSD prepared for this?

Ori Bernstein (ori@) has sent a follow-up mail about his experimental #GEFS port to #OpenBSD tech@, including a updated diff with newfs_gefs(8) utility, and more error handling. :flan_hacker: [...] First off, thanks to Martijn, and everyone else who tried it out and sent patches. Everything is updated and rebased, and the diff has been regenerated with all of the lastest. I've gone through a the error handling code. In theory the filesystem will handle errors mostly correctly. There are probably still places where theory diverges from reality. I've also forward ported most of the important bugfixes from 9front. [..] Some userspace tools have been done (you can now mkfs on openbsd!), but snapshot control hasn't.
