I have these Eastern Jack-O-Lantern Mushrooms (Omphalotus illudens*) growing in my yard, begging for a picture, and their guardian apparently wanted their portrait taken too.(a Gray treefrog, or perhaps a “Cope’s Gray treefrog). #fungi #frogs #fungiandfrogs #MushroomsOfMastodon (* I think, it’s the best guess from a reverse image search and the fact they are growing out of a rotting oak stump)

#Wildlife #Frogs #Iowa I haven't had much for #FrogFriday this year, but on Wednesday, I spotted this one in the yard. It just about has to be a Gray Tree Frog, but the skin doesn't seem right -- too smooth and slippery. But maybe that's because it had been hanging out in the wet grass. Edit: It definitely could be a very young American Bullfrog (see comments). The skin definitely matches better. It may have taken advantage of a rainy night and morning to go on an adventure.

Replying to
tadpole (frog) update: my mother spent an hour fishing tadpoles out of the mud puddle with a net, and transferred them all to a slough in the rear of her acreage. just in time too. the mud puddle only had a few litres of water left after strong sun all week. they now are swimming around happily with a gigantic new food source, with way more territory. this is like watching someone play Spore 😹 #frogs #quebec

The Vietnamese mossy frog may not be invisible, but it comes pretty close. 🐸 This critter’s camouflage provides perfect cover among Vietnam's mossy caves and stream banks. It can project its voice up to 13 ft (4 m) into the distance, making it even more difficult to locate. @AMNH #globalmuseum #frogs

I finally drew Morty the mock tomato frog. She always seemed like too much of a challenge, but now she seems like good practice. I have so many projects I'm working on, but I kind of want to draw her again, and maybe write a poem. ETA - almost forgot. Wrote about her once: https://tippitiwichet.wordpress.com/2023/09/23/my-recovery-garden-is-persephones-garden/ #art #humanMadeArt #sciArt #frogs #pets

Desert rain frogs threatened with extinction in southern Africa

The survival of a unique frog species that lives in the coastal sand dunes of South Africa and Namibia is under threat from diamond mining, the proposed Boegoebaai Green Hydrogen Project and climate change. The desert rain frog (Breviceps macrops) has been moved to a higher threat category, from near threatened to vulnerable, on the […]
