Regarding the recent South Park episode, I appreciate, aside from the meat eaters exploding, the subtle economics lesson of what happens when the luxury/bourgeois product called "beef" is scarce. As the main characters yearn for school lunches with local cow flesh, they have to realize that the 'free market' has delivered that luxury product to much richer consumers far away. That's highlighted by the rancher who's showing off his new wealth with jewelry. So much for "locavore." The episode doesn't get into CAFOs, but it does show the ideal case of welfarism and the delusional idea that the most resource intensive version of cow exploitation -- "grass fed" with extra welfare -- would be economically sustainable for the masses. The best and fairest solution is to abolish the animal exploitation industry. #reducetarian #vegetarian #vegan #govegan #Southpark #beef #SouthAmerica #capitalism #consumerism #bourgeois #ratRace

Sorry I’m about to talk about cows again. But seriously, this announcement from Trump was nothing but a ploy to depress head prices on the Sept 1 sales. (We’ve talked before about how cattle sales work, I won’t bore you again, but 1st of month is a big deal.) Why do I say it was a ploy? Because I can math. 300,000 tons of beef would mean 1.2 MILLION head of cattle would go to slaughter just for ground beef, no sirloins, no ribeye, no filet…if the whole cow was ground up, it would take that many cows. That stock doesn’t exist anywhere on earth. What Trump said he would do, is not a thing which can be done. He’s just moving markets. By the time anyone can do the math, you’ve already lost $$$ on the steer in the feed lot. And I say to the yeehawdists, I told you. You didn’t believe me. Why didn’t you believe me? Well, too late to listen now. #beef #us #marketmanipulation

Across 165 countries, the highest GHG emissions from diet are among highly educated urban men aged 15-34. Median is 5.7 kgCO2e/day, against 2.9 for rural women aged 35-54 with low education. In others words, the impact on climate is roughly double in a group with more resources, choice, and agency.
