ABC headline "[...] some fear One Nation's rhetoric is stirring ugly divides" No! Really? This is a candidate for stupidest headline of the year. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-10-29/vic-election-racist-rhetoric-one-nation-migration-debate/107313288 #AUSPol #VICPol

Just had what may have been the stupidest support call of all time. An HR firm that I have done a few T&M jobs for rang up and asked if I could "do a job". The following conversation ensued. Me: "What's the job?" Them: "Server." Me: "What kind of server" Them: " <company name>" Me: "I mean is it Windows, Linux, Mac...?" Them: "Don't know&...

@glent A complete KDE Connect implementation for GNOME" Bold! Initial results poor. After starting, GSC sits there saying "Searching for devices...". It does not find my Bluetooth enabled phone. It does not find my USB connected phone. It does not find my wifi-connected phone. It does not connect when given the IP address of the phone on my wifi network (on the default port, 1716). Sad! Desperation! RTFM! Aha, I need to install an app on the phone. Done (from F-D...

Anita was providing fresh ideas, according to Greenwood's earlier evidence. Dwyer is saying that is unlikely to have been the case, as the matters she was involved with had been ongoing for many years. Again, making the case that Anita has not provided value. #ICACRadio

He got an award?!? Is it uncharitable to think it might be the sort of award one gets spam emails about? Yes, it is uncharitable. Would be interesting to look at the award details. "I was busy" lol. And "I stayed overseas because I had been threatened". #ICACRadio

Fuel for the outrage machine. Bega Valley Shire Council just chucked the Merimbula Muslim community out of their premises. They paid their rent, they held gatherings, plenty of which involved non-Muslims, and they prayed five times a day. It was completely inoffensive and brought together people of all faiths and none; basically a community centre with twenty minutes of prayer a day. The Council won't say *why* they chucked them out beyond saying they've deemed it a place of wor...

Its enjoyable to encounter an English word that I have never seen before. It happened today. Do you know, without looking it up, what a "placket" is? Sometimes spelled "placquet". Feel free to boost. And, without revealing the actual answer, feel free to suggest likely meanings :-)

Need a job as a Head Barista? The Eddy in Merimbula (NSW, Australia) is hiring. Seems like a together crew. No relation, just a customer :-) Details in alt text. Boost maybe?

@rood@aus.social The mainstream media need angles with wide appeal. If it can't spark outrage or self-interest, it's spiked. "Someone somewhere made a mistake years ago that under certain specific circumstances lets a person with a login to a Linux system take over that system" is not really a main stream media story...

@WeirdWriter @benroyce @courtcan Good article. The same sense, writ smaller, happens in so many spaces. Pill testing and legalising drugs, for example:: "But it will send the wrong message" they say. And I just feel like screaming at them... "what part of 'people are dying' do you not understand?" And it's very hard not to feel, at the same time, that they know people are dying but they don't care, not about *those* people. Their stupid insistence on some kin...
